Find several choices of what you're qualified to do. Which might mean getting a little out of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself. Now,
for every job you could do, write a new resume' explicitly for that position.
Now is when you become a salesman. You need to sell yourself, (in a good way), to the team you're trying to convince that you can be a team player and contributor to the goal of that organization. Every listing is a 'WISHLIST' of what they're looking for in a candidate. If you're willing to take some classes to brush up on something, or take a different position to get your foot in the door, you need to say so! Years ago I was passed up for a job because they thought I was still in the military. I was top candidate, but I didn't tell them that I had more than 60 days of terminal leave that I could have taken and worked for them before I was discharged. 6 months later, the No.2 they hired, didn't work out. I still got the job, since I'd been discharged by then. But it sure would have been nice to have had another 6 months of seniority.
Crimony, I was hired here because I had an indepth working knowledge of Novell Operating systems. We've gotten rid of Novell Netware and now I work primarily with MickySoft operating systems and applications running on that platform. You'll have to be flexible in your job searches. If you can take some classes, SharePoint server would be a great place to focus if you have more than a 'Graphical design' background. If you've got any .net or other web
programing
experience.

Those are all local jobs. Don't apply online! Find out where the job is. Hunt down the manager for that department then the HR department for that company/organization. If you really want a job, then you need to work the wishlist to get past the screeners in HR. They are looking for the high points. Once you get past the screeners, sell yourself to the ones that are doing the interviews for the job. But you can only do that if you know exactly what they're looking for. You find that out from the manager.

Find the local job opening you want.
After submitting your application, call at least once a week to 1) let them know you are interested, 2) you feel you are highly qualified. Try to come up with a "Top 10" list of why you are the best candidate for the job - "I want it", "I need it" don't count. A said by Jack, sell yourself. Your job is to provide the employer the facts to conclude they are a *censored* if they don't hire you. Approach it entirely from the employer's perspective - why should they hire you, and not someone else?
If you can't answer that in your own mind, why should they hire you?
Best of luck. I haven't been out of work for 20+ years, hope to never find out again how that feels.
